On The Rocks

I was thinking how to shoot these jewelry and thought of the idiomatic expression “on the rocks”. It being precious stones set on precious metal, I immediately liked the idea of a rock on the rocks. I also liked the irony that these precious rocks are given as gifts to loved ones contrasting with the idea of the expression “on the rocks”, which means a relationship that’s experiencing difficulties and is likely to fail.

I also didn’t want to shoot them on a brandy glass with ice but instead to literally shoot them on some rocks and water, like on a river or pond so as to highlight the contrast of polished rocks on an unpolished rocks. So I set up some rocks on a baking pan, got some water, arranged the jewelry, lit it and shot them. Cheers!

A Red Carpet Massacre

My wife Rosy and I recently shot Jon Santos, Candy Pangilinan, John Lapus and Pooh, 4 of the country’s funniest comedians for a red carpet event concept shoot and was killed by their humor. I was amazed at how serious these people take their comedy. Everyone in the set was laughing when they got into character for the shoot. Armed to the teeth and dressed to kill, Jon Santos played the elegant Vilma Santos, Candy Pangilinan impersonated the goofy Betty La Fea and the cute Mariel Rodriguez, John Lapus came in as the inimitable Kris Aquino and Pooh played the fearless Manny Pacquiao. All of them had a blast in front of the camera as I had behind

Dwellings

“Home is where the heart is” is an old proverb that best describes these houses. For no matter where in the country they may be, how simple or fancy it’s interiors, they will always be a place where it’s owners feel very much at home. Presented here are photographs of homes I’ve shot from Cainta, Antipolo, Taguig, Makati, Alabang, Laguna, Cebu, Bohol and Dumaguete for various

Darangen ni Bantugen

Last May 13, 2008, a group of FPPF photographers headed by Chairperson Eduviges Y. Huang and Project Director Lito Beltran were invited by the Phil. Ballet Theater to photograph the dress rehearsal of PBT’s adaptation of “Darangen ni Bantugen” at the CCP Main Theater. “Darangen ni Bantugen” is a Maranao epic set in classical dance with live music by the Philippine Baranggay Folk Dance Troupe and world music pre-recorded and composed by Jesse Lucas. Local tribal instruments like the kulintang, dabakan and diw-diw-as were used along with percussions to create ethnic rhythms that the performers danced to.

Excellent stage lighting by Jonjon Villaruel Jr. effectively portrayed every cast member with a play of colors for moods and story shifts while the minimalist and modern looking set was designed by National Artist for Theater Design Salvador Bernal.

Gener Caringal masterfully choreographed the dances and assisted by Ronilo Jaynario. They used a lot of props for the dances often ...
